Metric contracts that survive analyst handoffs

Desk with printed documents and a pen ready for review

Scorecard analytics fail quietly when the person who built the query leaves. A metric contract is a one-page agreement that travels with the KPI.

Include: official name, plain-language description, numerator, denominator, filters, refresh cadence, data source, owner, steward, and the last change date. Add a “do not confuse with” note for lookalike metrics.

Store contracts next to the scorecard—not in a private notebook. When someone proposes a definition change, require a short impact note: which historical comparisons break, and who approved the cutover.

This is unglamorous work. It is also why some Thai scale-ups keep year-over-year trust while peers argue about whether January was “correct.”
